New Releases and Highlights for Wednesday, December 31

If you were afraid there would be no new comics this week, rest assured there will be! (Just not that many.) Sorry for the delay on posting this fairly short list of highlights and new releases, but as they say, better late than never!

Marvel only has two books coming out this week, but the first one isn't pulling any punches! SHIELD #1 by Mark Waid and Carlos Pacheco brings readers all of the action, adventure, and intrigue they've come to expect from the elite agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. In this new series, everyone's favorite Special Agent Phil Coulson has his pick of the brightest and best of the Marvel universe on a case by case basis. Each issue of the series will be written by Waid with a stunning Marvel artist taking over for every new adventure. Don't miss the first issue of what's sure to be Marvel's next big hit.

Marvel's other big release this week is the All-New Miracleman Annual #1. Joe Quesada has art duties on this one as he brings to life Grant Morrison's lost Miracleman story that takes places prior to the Battle of London. Miracleman fans can not miss this issue. As an added bonus, Peter Milligan and Mike Allred reunited to bring readers a new story that's sure to become a classic.

New Release List and Highlights for Wednesday, November 19

The next chapter of The Multiversity hits shelves this Wednesday in Multiversity: Pax Americana #1 by the all-star team of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. Morrison and Quitely take readers to Earth-4 in this new tale featuring unique versions of classic heroes, including The Question, Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, Nightshade and Peacemaker. In a truly Morrison fashion, the story is told backwards, with more mysteries being revealed in every page. If you're new to Multiversity, every issue has been a self-contained story building towards a larger narrative, so you can pick this one up (or any of the others) without reading the previous ones.

This week welcomes the brand new creative team of Meredith Finch and David Finch to Wonder Woman #36. And with a new creative team comes an all new, epic story line great for new and dedicated readers alike. New allies and villains will make an appearance; plus, one of those new baddies will stand toe-to-toe with Wonder Woman and the Justice League. If all of that wasn't enough, this issue guest stars Swamp Thing! That's not all that's new for Wonder Woman! Peter J. Tomasi and Doug Mahnke take over creative duties on Superman/Wonder Woman #13. The super-couple's bond will be tested like never before in this new story line.

Arkham Manor #1 by Gerry Duggan and Shawn Crystal had fans going mad of the story of Gotham's new home for its criminally insane. And speaking of criminals, Deathstroke's new book made the Top 10, bringing his speciality of action and violence. Two of Marvel's events also made the list: AXIS #3 and the continued story of Edge of Spider-Verse in Amazing Spider-Man #8. We highly recommend checking out Memetic #1 from BOOM! Studios. While it feel just short of getting the number 10 spot, it's well worth the read, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it hit the Top 10 with futures issues. Magic: The Gathering Khans of Tarkir Prerelease Highlights!

With the release of Magic: The Gathering's new set, Khans of Tarkir, right around the corner (tomorrow) and the Release Celebration Tournament right after (on Saturday), we thought we would take a look at some of the highlights from last weekend's Khans of Tarkir Prerelease Event.

Wizards of the Coast did things a little differently for this set. Similar to previous prerelease events, players choose the clan they were going to support in the tournament, which (in theory) sets what colors they're going to play in the tournament. Once the clans are chosen, everyone received the clan box that contained their Khans packs along with a clan specific booster containing a special promo card. The promo card is where Wizards changed things up. In the past, there were five different cards (one for each box), but this set had multiple promos for each clan. This gives players the chance to get different promos if they play in multiple prerelease events — we ran the event on Saturday and Sunday. Multiple clan-promo cards also means different players supporting the same clan might run different promo cards in their decks, which provided a little variety on the battlefield.

The prereleases also turned out to be a great place for new Magic players to get their start. On both Saturday and Sunday, we had several players new to the game, and they had a blast! In fact, one of our Magic Freshman placed top 8 in her very first tournament! Congratulations, Kate. We hope to see all of our new players at future events as they continue to enjoy the game.

Speaking of future events. We have the Release Celebration Tournament on Saturday, September 27 at noon. This is a second chance for anyone who missed taking part in the prerelease (or those that did and can't wait to play with Khans some more) to get their hands one of those clan boxes I was talking about. And do forget about our weekly Draft Tournaments every Thursday at 6:30 PM and Friday at 6:00 PM.

If you'd like to see more photos from the event, head over to our Facebook photo album!

New comic highlights for Wednesday, September 24

The dark future of DC's New 52 is further explored this Wednesday in another group of one-shot books looking at where each of the titular heroes (or villains) is five years later. Each of these books comes with a really cool 3D cover that isn't to be missed. Here are the titles too keep an eye out for this week: Aquaman and the Others: Futures End #1, Booster Gold: Futures End #1, Catwoman: Futures End #1, Flash: Futures End #1, Harley Quinn: Futures End #1, Justice League Dark: Futures End #1, Red Lantern: Futures End #1, Sinestro: Futures End #1 and Superman: Futures End #1. If all of those books don't satisfy your hunger for the future of the DCU, you always have the weekly New 52 Futures End book; issue #21 is out this week.

DC has a treat for all you Joker fans. The Batman Death of the Family & Joker Mask Set hits shelves this week. Not only do you get the trade paperback collection of Scott Snyder's popular storyline that brought Joker back to the New 52 DCU, but you also get a gruesome, hand-painted Joker mask. Now you don't have to worry about who you're going to be for Halloween!

In Edge of Spider-Verse #3 by Dustin Weaver, Dr. Aaron Aikman is the Spider-Man! Who is this Aikman guy? What kind of Spider-Man is he? Pick up the issue and find out who this brand new Spider-character is. This series has been a lot of fun so far, and we highly recommend it to Spider-Man fans.

Image's new series by Michael Moreci and Vic Malhotra, Roche Limit #1, is described as a pairing of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Blade Runner. Billionaire Langford Skaargard's dream of exploring the cosmos ends like many dreams do: poorly. The colony of Roche Limit has devolved into a hive of crime and villainy. In a place like Limit, it isn't odd for someone to go missing. However, when Bekkah Hudson disappears, a search leads her sister and others to uncover the dark future of humanity. Dr. No's is proud to offer the rare Phantom Variant for Roche Limit #1, only available at authorized stores.

The winners of Dr. No's Create Your Own DC New 52 Multiversity Cover Contest

Last month, Grant Morrison and DC Comics launched Multiversity, an exploration of the different Earths that make up the DC New 52 Multiverse. However, seven of those Earths were left open to future writers' creativity. With that in mind, we held a contest for our customers to use the Blank Cover Variant of Multiversity #1 to create their own DC New 52 Earth. The winner of the contest will receive a free copy of the remaining books in the Multiversity series. In addition, as a thank you to all of our amazing participants, the runner-ups will get a free copy of this week's Multiversity: The Society of Super-Heroes #1. And now on to our winner, The Eldritch League of America:

After the break, we had Charles, the talented artist of this cover, tell us a little about his inspiration:
