New release highlights for Wednesday, October 1!

Marvel is literally redefining the faces of some of their classic heroes this week with the release of several new books. In Thor #1 by Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman, readers meet the new Thor. After being deemed unworthy in Original Sin, the God of Thunder can no longer pick up Mjolnir. The hammer now waits patiently for the next one worthy of the title Thor. Luckily, for us, the wait isn't long. When Frost Giants attack Earth, a new champion is born when she lifts the hammer, thus becoming the Goddess of Thunder! You want want to miss one of the most talked about comics in awhile.

Meanwhile, Thor wasn't the only person affected by the events of Original Sin. Captain America's former partner takes on a new role in the Marvel Universe in Bucky Barnes: Winter Soldier #1 by Ales Kot and Marco Rudy. The galaxy needs a man to do its dirty work, and Bucky is just the person to do the job. Speaking of Cap, readers are introduced to the next man to hold the famous shield in Captain America #25 by Rick Remender, Carlos Pacheco and Stuart Immonmen.

Click through after the break to see more new comics highlights and a full list of everything available Wednesday, October 1!

Magic: The Gathering Khans of Tarkir Prerelease Highlights!

With the release of Magic: The Gathering's new set, Khans of Tarkir, right around the corner (tomorrow) and the Release Celebration Tournament right after (on Saturday), we thought we would take a look at some of the highlights from last weekend's Khans of Tarkir Prerelease Event.

Wizards of the Coast did things a little differently for this set. Similar to previous prerelease events, players choose the clan they were going to support in the tournament, which (in theory) sets what colors they're going to play in the tournament. Once the clans are chosen, everyone received the clan box that contained their Khans packs along with a clan specific booster containing a special promo card. The promo card is where Wizards changed things up. In the past, there were five different cards (one for each box), but this set had multiple promos for each clan. This gives players the chance to get different promos if they play in multiple prerelease events — we ran the event on Saturday and Sunday. Multiple clan-promo cards also means different players supporting the same clan might run different promo cards in their decks, which provided a little variety on the battlefield.

The prereleases also turned out to be a great place for new Magic players to get their start. On both Saturday and Sunday, we had several players new to the game, and they had a blast! In fact, one of our Magic Freshman placed top 8 in her very first tournament! Congratulations, Kate. We hope to see all of our new players at future events as they continue to enjoy the game.

Speaking of future events. We have the Release Celebration Tournament on Saturday, September 27 at noon. This is a second chance for anyone who missed taking part in the prerelease (or those that did and can't wait to play with Khans some more) to get their hands one of those clan boxes I was talking about. And do forget about our weekly Draft Tournaments every Thursday at 6:30 PM and Friday at 6:00 PM.

If you'd like to see more photos from the event, head over to our Facebook photo album!

Last month, Grant Morrison and DC Comics launched Multiversity, an exploration of the different Earths that make up the DC New 52 Multiverse. However, seven of those Earths were left open to future writers' creativity. With that in mind, we held a contest for our customers to use the Blank Cover Variant of Multiversity #1 to create their own DC New 52 Earth. The winner of the contest will receive a free copy of the remaining books in the Multiversity series. In addition, as a thank you to all of our amazing participants, the runner-ups will get a free copy of this week's Multiversity: The Society of Super-Heroes #1. And now on to our winner, The Eldritch League of America:

After the break, we had Charles, the talented artist of this cover, tell us a little about his inspiration:

Today in a Dr. No's not so far, far away... Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG Beta Book!

The beta for the third installment of Fantasy Flight's Star Wars roleplaying game, Star Wars: Force and Destiny, has arrived at Dr. No's Comics & Games Superstore! This is your chance to play a Force powered campaign in the Star Wars universe created by Fantasy Flight. Here's what Fantasy Flight has to say:

The Force and Destiny beta is a limited edition, 256-page, softcover rulebook. Its core mechanics have already been tested extensively throughout the development of the Edge of the Empire™ and Age of Rebellion™ Core Rulebooks, as well as initial playtesting. It includes all the information on character creation, Force talents, adversaries, equipment, and vehicles that you need to run a complete campaign, and the beta comes with a complete adventure to get you started. Furthermore, because each Star Wars roleplaying installment is fully cross-compatible, the Force and Destiny beta can also serve as a supplement to your ongoing Edge of the Empire or Age of Rebellion campaigns, introducing a wealth of new playable species, careers, specializations, talents, Force powers, and opportunities for adventure.

As this is a Beta, you have the chance to play the game earlier than most people and provide valuable feedback to the creators of the RPG to make this the best game it can be. It is important to note that the book does not have all of the art the final edition will have and some of the rules/information are likely to change. Stop on by today to take your Star Wars game to the next level.
