Marvel NOW! is finally a reality this Wednesday, October 10. The superstar creative team of Rick Remender and John Cassaday usher readers into the new era of Marvel comics with Uncanny Avengers #1. After the world witnessed the horrible acts of a few misguided mutants, Captain America wants to help set everyone on a path to recovery by forming a sanctioned team comprised of X-Men and Avengers to show the two groups can work together for the betterment of all kinds. However, as the new team adjusts to one another and attempts to overcome their grief of burying the man who once championed the dream of mutants and humans coexisting, a loathsome villain returns to test the group beyond its breaking point. The world has been left scarred by the actions of the Phoenix force, so will it be able to accept the help of those that are to blame? With all of the new series coming up from Marvel, some endings are to be expected. Avengers #31 begins Brian Bendis's final arc on the book. While the Avengers deal with the fallout of their battle against the X-Men, Iron Man intercepts a signal that may be from one of the groups dearest friends or greatest enemies. The Clown Prince of Crime has been missing from the DC New 52 for nearly a year, but this week marks the return of Batman's greatest villain in Batman #13 by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo. In "Death of the Family," the man who crippled Batgirl, killed Jason Todd, and has done countless acts of evil is coming back, and he has a plan that will leave Batman scrambling to protect those he calls family. Speaking of Batgirl, witness her first encounter with Catwoman and the return of the Talon that hunted Barbara down in "Night of the Owls" in Batgirl #13. Readers looking to uncover some of The New 52's secrets shouldn't miss Phantom Stranger #1 by Dan DiDio and Brent Anderson. The DC Universe faces major repercussions when the Phantom Stranger and Lord Trigon make a bargain as Pandora watches it all unfold from the background. If that isn't enough unseen action of The New 52, Team 7 #1 gives readers a look at the secret war waged by the first response team designed to combat the emerging super powers in the DCU. For something a little different, readers may want to check out Ame Comi Girls #1 by Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti, and Amanda Conner. This new series is inspired by the popular DC Collectibles line of figures by the same name. The first issue focuses on Wonder Woman as she tries to stop an attack on Themyscira.
What better time of the year than October for Image to release the Walking Dead Michonne Special by Kirkman and Adlard. Just in time for her appearance in the third season of the Walking Dead television series, this issue reprints issue #19 of the comic and the special origin story originally only in Playboy Magazine. Dynamite is also helping readers get into the Halloween mood with the relaunch of Evil Ernie by Jesse Snider and Jason Craig. Ernest Fairchild was just like anybody else until one day he went on of the largest killing sprees in American History. With one more kill to go to complete his ritual and seal his deal with the Devil, Ernie is captured and sentenced to the electric chair. But it is going to take more than death to stop evil incarnate.
