September marks the beginning of DC Comic's Villains Month and asks the question: what happens when the heroes of Earth fall and the bad guys are left to their own devices? After the events of 'Trinity War,' DC launches its first universe wide crossover with Forever Evil #1 by Geoff Johns and David Finch. With the Justice League dead, the villains have taken over, and their vile story begins here. Throughout the month of September, 52 of DC's most notable villains will be spotlighted in their own one-shots with amazing 3D covers. The first week of books include: Action Comics #23.1: Cyborg Superman, Batman #23.1: Joker, Batman and Robin #23.1: Two Face, Batman The Dark Knight #23.1: Ventriloquist, Detective Comics #23.1: Poison Ivy, Earth 2 #15.1: Desaad, Flash #23.1: Grodd, Green Arrow #23.1: Count Vertigo, Green Lantern #23.1: Relic, Justice League #23.1: Darkseid, Justice League Dark #23.1: Creeper, Justice League of America #7.1: Deadshot and Superman #23.1: Bizarro. Quantities of the 3D covers are extremely limited due to DC under printing, but standard (read non-3D) covers will also be available Wednesday.
If that wasn't enough from DC, it's also bringing back the celebrated, Eisner Award winning series Batman Black & White for a six issue miniseries. In issue one, you'll find stories from some of the industry's biggest creators, including Neal Adams, John Arcudi and Sean Murphy, Chip Kidd and Michael Cho, Joe Quinones and Maris Wicks, and Howard Mackle and Chris Samnee. Another new series premiering this week is DC Vs Masters of the Universe #1 by Keith Giffen and Dexter Soy. As if the DCU didn't have enough bad guys on their hands, Skeletor has escaped to Earth after his last battle with He-Man. Skeletor quickly sets in motion a plan to steal the Earth's magic while He-Man forms a group to hunt him down. Along the way, He-Man will go head-to-head with some of DC's greatest heroes.
Marvel also has a lot going on this Wednesday with the release of Infinity #2 by Jonathan Hickman, Jorome Opena and Dustin Weaver. In this issue, the Inhumans pay a tribute to the invading forces, a victory is won (but for how long?) and the secrets of Thanos begin to reveal themselves. Then, a ten-part crossover event starring the X-Men of the past, present and future begins in X-Men: Battle of the Atom #1 by Brian Michael Bendis and Frank Cho. A new mutant has appeared, and while the All New X-Men are investigating, something horrible happens that will forever alter time and space. It is this event that bring the X-Men of the future to the present to send the All New X-Men back to the past. If you can't get enough of time-traveling heroes, don't miss Superior Spider-Man #17! Due to popular demand, Spider-Man 2099 is back, and he comes face-to-face with the Superior Spider-Man.
