With 'Infinity' taking place, Marvel Universe's heroes are off planet fighting an all-or-nothing galactic war. Thanos sees opportunity in the Earth being left without its greatest heroes and sends his marauders to ransack the planet. However, the new Mighty Avengers #1 by Al Ewing and Greg Land proves the Earth may not be as defenseless as Thanos thought. As Proxima Midnight launches her attack, a new group of Avengers comes together, including Luke Cage, The Superior Spider-Man, The White Tiger, Power Man and a guy dressed in a really bad Spider-Man costume. Meanwhile, in space, the Avengers are prisoners of war in Avengers #19 by Jonathan Hickman and Leinil Francis Yu. While the X-Men aren't part of 'Infinity,' they do have their own big event going called 'Battle of the Atom,' and part three happens this week in X-Men #5 by Brian Wood and David Lopez.
The second week of DC's Villains Month marks the release of thirteen new, spectacular 3D covers featuring some of the DCU's biggest baddies. One of the standout titles this week is Detective Comics #23.2: Harley Quinn by Matt Kindt and Neil Googe. Before meeting The Joker, she was just Dr. Harleen Quinzel, but the clown quickly led her into a maddening world of crime that eventually landed her on the Suicide Squad. Meet some more of Batman's most notable villains in Batman #23.2: Riddler, Batman and Robin #23.2: Court of Owls and Batman The Dark Knight #23.2: Mr. Freeze. The Man of Steel has several of his big bads highlighted this week in Action Comics #23.2: Zod and Superman #23.2: Brainiac. Other solo hero books getting the villain treatment include Aquaman #23.1: Black Manta, Flash #23.2: Reverse Flash and Green Lantern #23.2: Mongul. Speaking of Green Lantern, find out why Solomon Grundy hates him most of all in Earth 2 #15.2: Solomon Grundy. While every hero has his or her personal nemesis, every team must have their own as well: Justice League #23.2: Lobo, Justice League of America #7.2: Killer Frost and Teen Titans #23.1: Trigon. Just a reminder, these 3D covers are extremely limited, so show up early.
This Wednesday, Valiant brings back another classic title to the stands: Eternal Warrior #1 by Greg Pak and Trevor Hairsine. Gilad Anni-Padda, the man known as the Eternal Warrior, has survived for five millennia and fought on thousands of battlefields, but all of the horrors of humanity finally caught up to him. Putting aside his duties as the Fist and the Steel of Earth, Gilad has retired to a life of seclusion. However, history has a way of catching up with you, and he is quickly called out of retirement to aid a person who betrayed him thousands of years before.
