Not so long from now in a comic shop very, very close by . . . Dark Horse comics presents one of their most anticipated books of 2013: Star Wars #1 by fan-favorite writer Brian Wood and artist Carlos D'anda. This is the Star Wars fans remember and love but presented with all new adventures following the destruction of the Death Star. Any thing can happen in a galaxy ruled over by the oppressive Emperor and his right hand, Darth Vader. Only the Rebels stand against the evil Empire with the help of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3PO, and more of readers' favorite characters. Wood plans to make this a very character driven story (but don't worry, there are plenty of space battles!), with the premiere issue finding Leia in the cockpit of an X-Wing. To make things even better, the first issue features a beautiful cover by Alex Ross!
This is it folks! One of the most shocking Marvel events to date has all lead to this: an all new Spider-Man book for 2013! Superior Spider-Man #1 by Dan Slott and Ryan Stegman picks up where Amazing Spider-Man #700 (it actually replaces Amazing Spider-Man for readers keep tabs on their titles) and Avenging Spider-Man #15.1 left off. After the life changing events of the "Dying Wish" storyline, Peter Parker is a brand new person, literally. Otto Octavius has taken Parker's life and plans to be better in every way. He is smarter, stronger, superior. With a new book comes all new villains, but they better watch out because this Spider doesn't pull his punches. Don't miss this book!
Several of Marvel's hottest new titles continue this week, so let's take a look at what books you have to look forward to this Wednesday! Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic's Thor, God of Thunder #4 jumps readers thousands of years into the future when King Thor rules over a ruined Asgard as he battles against the God Butcher's legion of minions. In Thunderbolts #3, Daniel Way and Steve Dillon introduce a new member to the crew: Red Leader! Dennis Hopeless and Salvador Larroca reveal what Colossus has been up to since AvX in Cable and X-Force #3. Those looking to get more Frank Castle into your reading diets, look no further than Punisher Nightmare #2, by Scott Gimple and Mark Texeira, and Punisher War Zone #3, by Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto. And at long last, Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons' Secret Service #5 continues their amazing spy story that fans have been eagerly anticipating.
DC's "Death of the Family" continues in Detective Comics #16 by John Layman, Jason Fabok, and Andy Clarke. Batman and Penguin must make a deal that won't take long to come back and haunt them. Plus, Ignatius Ogivly has taken the Penguin's thrown and plans to rule the underworld in his place as the new Emperor Penguin! Then, "Rotworld: The Green Kingdom" moves towards its conclusion in Swamp Thing #16 by Scott Snyder and Yanick Paquette. Swamp Thing can cleanse the Earth of the Rot, but will the sacrifice be too great? Also, discover the secret left by Batman in the ruins of Gotham. "Rotworld: The Red Kingdom" continues in Animal Man #16 by Jeff Lemire, Steve Pugh, and Timothy Green. Animal Man, Constantine, Steel, Black Orchid, Beast Boy, and Frankenstein and his patchwork army stand against Anton Arcane, but all of their powers combine may not be enough. Last but not least, Jeff Lemire's acclaimed Sweet Tooth series comes to an end this week with the release of issue #40!
A couple of other notable titles include the always thrilling Walking Dead #106 by Kirkman and Adlard, Clone #3 by Schulner and Juan Jose, Finding Gossamyr #3 by David Rodriguez and Sarah Ellerton, and Mars Attacks Kiss One Shot by Chris Ryall and Alan Robinson.
