This week has a couple new Marvel NOW! titles for readers to try out. Fans' of the film Battle Royale or the book The Hunger Games should try out Avengers Arena #1 by writer Dennis Hopeless and artist Kev Walker. Someone has captured sixteen super powered young adults and placed them on a secluded island. Their captor gives them two choices: fight or die. Only one of them will make it off the island alive. Featuring members from the Runaways, the Avengers Academy, and Darkhawk, this book is sure to have someone's favorite character. The only question is: will he or she survive?
AA isn't the only book Dennis Hopeless has out this week. He teams up with fan favorite artist Salvador Lorroca for Cable and X-Force #1. With the techno-organice virus that has ravaged his body since infancy gone, Nathan Summers must now focus on the future, and things are not looking good. Cable brings together a group of uniquely qualified mutants--including Doctor Nemesis, Colossus, Domino, and Forge--to do what it will take to save the world, even if it means being branded mutant terrorists. Other NOW! titles this week include Fantastic Four #2, Iron Man #4, and Avengers Assemble #10. And don't miss Amazing Spider-Man #699.1 by Dan Slott, Joe Keatinge, and Valentine De Landro. Doctor Octopus' plan is in full swing when Morbius the Living Vampire frees himself from his recent captivity. Can he resist the siren song of his bloodlust? This issue is a direct lead into his all-new ongoing series next month!
DC's "Death of the Family" continues this week. If you thought things couldn't get worse, don't miss these issues. Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo continue their horrific tale in Batman #15. Joker has targeted the heart of the Bat-family, and now they must face the impossible. As Joker's plan is fully realized, the question becomes: how has he become so dangerous? Also, this issue contains a backup story featuring a confrontation between Joker and the Riddler. Then, with all of the bad stuff going on, Joker decides it is time for a wedding in Batgirl #15 by Gail Simone and Ed Benes. Batman and Robin #15 by Peter Tomasi, Patrick Gleason, and Mick Gray features the first meeting between Damian and the Joker! Has the clown finally meet someone as dangerous as he is? This issue has one of those neat die-cut covers! Harley continues her twisted reunion with the Joker in Suicide Squad #15 by Adam Glass and Fernando Dagnino.Other books of note this week include Walking Dead #105 by Kirkman and Adlard, Adventure Time: Marceline Scream Queens #6, Atomic Robo: Flying She Devils of the Pacific #5, Clone #2, and more!
