DC has a few new all-ages books on offer this week, which is great to see. You guys know Bat-Mite, right? Of course you do. He MADE Batman who he is today. Or at least he thinks he did. In Bat-Mite #1 by Dan Jurgens and Corin Howell, Bat-Mite is determined to bring his expertise in character promotion to all the heroes of the DC Universe. And if you imagined the heroes would be crazy after dealing with that little guy, there's no way they're as crazy as Bizarro in the new Bizarro #1 by Heath Corson and Gustavo Duarte. In this all-ages adventure, Bizarro gets into some crazy antics that DO NOT involve Jimmy Olsen and Chupacabras.
Secret Wars (shhhh) rages on in Marvel comics, bringing fans a slew of new books. The one I'm most excited to check out is Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #1 by Dan Slott and Adam Kubert. What if Mary Jane and Peter Parker had never been magic'd apart? This book answers that question. This is what readers have wanted for a long time. Let's hope some of it carries over. The main story continues in Secret Wars #3 by Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic. Battleworld has brought a lot of good and bad back, and it's not finished yet. Other tie-in books this week include Armor Wars #1 by James Robinson and Marcio Takara, Future Imperfect #1 by Peter David and Greg Land, Giant Size Little Marvel AVX #1 by Skottie Young, Master of Kung-Fu #2 by Haden Blackman and Dalibor Talajic, Secret Wars: Battleworld #2 by David Walker, Donny Cates, Juvaun Kirby and Marco Turini, X-Tinction Agenda #1 by Marc Guggenheim and Carmine Giandomenico, and (finally) Years of Future Past #1 by Marguerite Bennett and Mike Norton.
At long last Nate Simpson's amazing artwork and talent for world building returns in Nonplayer #2. It has been a long time since the first issue (luckily Image is releasing a reprint of it alongside #2), but Simpson hasn't missed a beat. Step into a world were a digital game and real life blur into something truly spectacular. And a giant robot armed with seafood is there. So yeah, buy this book.
