The month starts with a bang this Wednesday, October 5

September was a great month for comic book fans, and October plans to keep the hits coming! First up, we have Howard Chaykin writing and drawing Avengers 1959 #1 for Marvel! Spinning out of New Avengers, 1959 follows the continuing adventures of Nick Fury and his unlikely Avengers-Dominic Fortune, Kraven the Hunter, Namora, Sabertooth, Ulysses Bloodstone, and Ernst Sablinova-as the decade comes to a close. Their secret mission is to hunt down Nazi super villains before they can unleash their terror upon the world, but the Avengers may encounter trouble from some unlikely competition! This promises to be a unique look into the history of The Avengers as this strange group of heroes attempts to save the world.

This week welcomes a slew of DC's New 52 second issues and second printings, but let's take a look at two new miniseries first! Huntress #1, written by Paul Levitz and art by Marcus To and John Dell, finds the former Bird of Prey returning to her home in Italy, but along the way, she manages to get a price on her head so large that it will be hard to ignore. This series will tie in to upcoming events in the Birds of Prey series. Then, you won't want to miss Penguin, Pain and Prejudice #1 by novelist Greg Hurwitz and artist Szymon Kudranski. This new miniseries explores the dark past of one of Batman's greatest villains as Oswald Cobblepot goes from a mother's favorite son to head of Gotham's seedy underworld. And don't miss the second issues of these great new DC 52 titles:
  • Action Comics #2
  • Animal Man #2
  • Batwing #2
  • Detective Comics #2
  • Green Arrow #2
  • Hawk and Dove #2
  • Justice League International #2
  • Men of War #2
  • O.M.A.C. #2
  • Red Lanterns #2
  • Static Shock #2
  • Stormwatch #2
  • Swamp Thing #2
Also, anyone looking for second printings of the previously mentioned books' first issues need to look no further come this Wednesday.

Fans of Robert Kirkman's Walking Dead series are in luck this week! Walking Dead #89 hits shelves, but that isn't all. Walking Dead HC Vol. 07 will also be available and collects volumes 13 and 14 of the trades. Just in time for the premiere of the tv show's second season, The Walking Dead Chronicles offers the only authorized look behind the scenes of season one and offers tons of never-before-seen photos, storyboards, set designs, effect shots, and side-by-side comparisons of the comic and show.

Marvel's big X-Men event comes to a close this week with X-Men Schism #5, leading to the new status-quo for our favorite mutant team.

These books, and many more, will be available as soon as we open the doors on Wednesday, so come on by! (And if you want to get an idea what else you can expect, check out the covers below!)
