Unity Art Contest Results!

Dr. No's would like to thank everyone who entered the contest and we appreciate the opportunity to get to see all of the wonderful artwork our customers are capable of. But there can be only one winner and we would like to congratulate Peter Cutler on his wonderful entry featuring all of the Unity main players. Peter's bold, confident linework and stylish depiction of the characters, combined with his clever take on the iconic Jack Kirby Avengers #4 motif, immediately won over our judges!

Peter's entry wins the Valiant cover contest at the store level; his entry will now advance to the national level, where Valiant will choose a winner from the invidual store winners.

Dr. No's would also like to congratulate Daniel Sloan, whose unique entry was chosen as our first runner up. His illustration, evocative of stained glass, caught the eye of all our judges as well.

Oh, the Inhumanity! New comics this Wednesday, December 4

After the events of Marvel's Infinity, the Terrigen Mists have been spread across the world and long dormant Inhuman genes are being awakened across the globe. In Inhumanity #1 by Matt Fraction and Olivier Coipel, the Avengers find themselves at odds with the Inhuman Karnak who has recently discovered the secret behind the Inhuman race. Don't miss the next chapter in the Marvel U's epic story. Peter Parker returns (kind of) in Amazing Spider-Man #700.1 by David Morrell (writer of First Blood) and artist Klaus Janson. This all new story of Peter as Spider-Man finds racing to save Aunt May as he protects New York City during one of the worst blizzards of all time. Then in Amazing X-Men #2 by Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness, Wolverine and Northstar are in heaven, and Nightcrawler is there too! But the rest of the team didn't seem to get so lucky in their off world trip. Meanwhile in the Ultimate Universe, Miles Morales heads to the main Marvel U when the Ultimates figure out where Galactus came from in Cataclysm: The Ultimates' Last Stand #2 by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley.

This week's Forever Evil tie-in comes courtesy of Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger #14 by J.M. DeMatteis and Fernando Blanco. The new Justice League Dark -- John Constantine, Swamp Thing and Nightmare Nurse -- attempt to bring Phantom Stranger into the fold to stop the Secret Society, but he won't even listen until Constantine reveals the Stranger's secret past. In Batman/Superman #6, the mighty Mongul, a name that strikes fear in hearts across the galaxy, has set his attention on Earth, and Batman and Superman are the only ones who stand in his way.  Don't miss Green Arrow #26 by Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino as the new story "The Outsiders War" is kicked off. Ollie has discovered the location of the Outsiders' base, but it means he must return to the island that made him who he is today. Other notable books out this week include Detective Comics #26, Green Lantern #26, Fairest #21, DC vs Masters of the Universe #3, and more.

Velvet #2 from the creators of Captain American: Winter Soldier, Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting, continues the new action/spy story this week. Velvet is being hunted by her own agency, but she won't give up until she finds out the truth behind Agent X-14's murder. As she follows the trail of blood and broken lives, one of her darkest secrets comes back to haunt her. If you missed the first issue, we still have plenty in stock and it is worth checking out.

Infinity ends this Wednesday, November 27

Over the past few months, Thanos has assaulted the Marvel Universe, and it all comes to a head in this week's Infinity #6 by Jonathan Hickman and Jim Cheung. In this over-sized issue, witness the conclusion of Marvel's big galactic event as the Earth's mightiest heroes face the forces of Thanos for one last time. Don't forget the tie-in books also available: Infinity Heist #3 and Infinity Hunt #4. Meanwhile, in the Ultimate Universe, Galactus is threatening the Earth's very existence. In Justice League Dark #25, Constantine is cut off from his team and must enlist the help of Swamp Thing if he hopes to survive in this world turned upside down. Then, the Titan's impromptu trip through the time stream comes to an end thanks to Echo in Teen Titans #25, and don't miss the beginning of Kid Flash's origin! Speaking of time travel, step back into the very early days of Batman in Gotham in this week's 'Zero Year' tie-ins. Catwoman #25 takes readers to Selina's early days breaking the law, and readers will learn why she always works alone. Find out the important role Barry Allen played in 'Zero Year' in Flash #25, and see how it shapes his future.

Image Comics, Rick Remender and Matteo Scalera bring you Black Science #1. Grant McKay is a former member of The Anarchistic Order of Scientists, and he's finally deciphered Black Science, something thought impossible until now. Harley Quinn steps into the spotlight this Wednesday, November 20

Daniel, Jim Lee, Art Baltazar and more. Issue zero finds our gal breaking the fourth wall as she discusses possible directions the book could take with the writers Conner and Palmiotti. Early previews have been entertaining, so don't miss this one. Then, in Scooby-Doo Team-Up #1 by Sholly Fisch and Dario Brizuela, Scooby and his pals are after a giant bat-creature that soon leads them to teaming up with Batman and Robin, who are also on the trail of this Man-Bat. Discover what Jason Todd was up to when Riddler took over Gotham in Red Hood and the Outlaws #25: Zero Year. And don't miss a turning point in Black Canary's history in Birds of Prey #25: Zero Year. Make a Valiant Artistic Effort!

 


 Hey, comics artists! Here's your chance to launch your professional comics art career!


Dr. No's is the only store in Georgia to offer the special Unity #1 Art Contest Phantom Variant.  This special edition of the premiere issue of Valiant's new hit series has not one but two variant covers: there is a cute variant cover featuring kid versions of the main character, but the outermost variant cover is a blank sketch cover on heavy art stock.

Here's how the contest works:

(1) Purchase a copy of the Unity #1 Art Contest Phantom Variant at Dr. No's.

(2) Enjoy this great comic!

(3) Draw your own Unity #1 cover on the Phantom Variant Sketch cover (must be drawn on the book--cannot be submitted on a separate sheet of paper)

(4) Bring your cover in to Dr. No's by Friday, November 22nd, so that we can put it on display.

(5) Our judges will pick first, second, and third place winners, and each winner will receive a prize.

(6) The first-place winner's art will be submitted to Valiant Comics, who will select a national winner from each participating store's first place winner (there are 57 total participating stores from all 50 states and the UK, so it's a pretty elite competition!). The Grand Prize for the national winner is a one on one portfolio review (by Skype or phone) with Valiant Executive Editor Warren Simons!
