After five decades filled with unforgettable experiences, the time has come for me to step away
as owner of Dr. No's Comics & Games SuperStore. As of May 1st, the store will continue
under its new owners, Ryan Schwanke and Jason McCarthy.
Passing the torch to new owners is not a decision I have come to lightly or hastily. A leukemia
diagnosis in January reminded me that unlike many comic book heroes, I am not immortal. Now
it is time for me to put the focus where it needs to be: on my family, my friends, and my health as
I begin the next phase of my life.
I share this not in search of sympathy, but to explain why I am leaving a position that I have
constantly loved for so many years. The store needs a team that can make it their main focus.
The new owners will keep the entire team (Buck, Tom, Izzy, Shelley, & Jair, listed in the order in
which they joined the Dr. No's family) in their respective positions as the faces of Dr. No's.
These are the people you have dealt with for years, and you will continue to benefit from their
knowledge and their focus on our customers.
I am proud of the store we have built here. Dr. No's is truly the sort of comic shop I had
dreamed of in the 196os and 1970s when comic shops were largely unheard of, and the team has
worked unflaggingly over the years to make my dream a reality. We offer the largest selection of
comics and collected editions in the Southeast, a wide selection of games and gaming-related
materials, a wide selection of popular culture posters, and so much more. But the team isn't
resting on their laurels.
Ryan and Jason, along with rest of the team, have ambitious plans to continue Dr. No's as the
store our customers desire and deserve. I am eager to watch them fulfill their own vision of
making the store even better, and I hope you'll join me as we discover what they have planned.
And I want my friends to know that I will remain a part of the team as well, assisting the Dr.
No's family as they build a better comic shop future. Hope to see you here!
