New Release Comics - Wednesday, April 22

DC's big event continues this week in Convergence #3 by Jeff King, Stephen Segovia and Jason Paz. Telos went up against the heroes of Earth-2 last issue, and he didn't do to well against them. Now, he will take out his rage on Kandor. Meanwhile, the Earth-2 heroes suffer a causality as they go after Rip Hunter and the rest of the Time Hunters in the city of Skartaris. And this week's tie-ins all involve heroes from Crisis on Infinite Earths. The new issues include Convergence: Adventures of Superman #1, Convergence: Batman and the Outsiders #1, Convergence: The Flash #1, Convergence: Green Lantern Corps #1, Convergence: Hawkman #1, Convergence: Justice League of America #1, Convergence: New Teen Titans #1, Convergence: Superboy and the Legion #1, Convergence: Swamp Thing #1, and Convergence: Wonder Woman #1.

Check out the rest of this week's highlights and a full list of releases after the break.

IDW brings back a personal favorite this week with the release of Empire: Uprising #1 by Mark Waid and Barry Kitson. Nearly 15 years ago, Waid and Kitson introduced readers to a world with no heroes. Golgoth, the fiercest super-villain in the world (think Dr. Doom), killed them all. He rules the world with an iron fist. However, after the events of the first series, we learned one hero still lived and he was the key to the Empire. Now, with the secret revealed, will Golgoth be able to keep his grasp on the world he killed for?

The Marvel Universe's galactic safety hangs in the balance in GotG and X-Men: Black Vortex Omega #1 by Sam Humphries and Ed McGuinness. The Guardians and the X-Men have fought to keep the Knife away from the Black Vortex. But stopping a man as powerful as Knife means the heroes might have to use the Black Vortex. Of course, the power has a cost. One that may mean the heroes' loss of their humanity. Sometimes even when you win, you lose.
