Great comics for September 29, 2010

The search for Bruce Wayne continues this week as we travel through time with Superman, Green Lantern, Booster Gold, and Rip Hunter in Time Masters: Vanishing Point #3. Time is running out as they continue to follow Wayne's footsteps through time, so Rip is forced to turn to some unlikely allies, the Linear Men. If you have been patiently waiting for the latest Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne, Time Masters is a great companion series that further explores the times and places Bruce has visited on his journey.

With the new direction of Thor that started last week, Marvel brings us Valkyrie #1. Brunnhilde died in battle as Loki destroyed Asgard during Ragnarok, but why and how has she returned to this heroic age take on the role of a Secret Avenger? Valkyrie also marks the Marvel writing debut of Bryan J.L. Glass, best known for The Mice Templar.

This final week in September marks the end of the fascinating and underrated Heroic Age: One Month to Live. Dennis Sykes was given super powers in an accident, but unfortunately, the very same accident that gave him his amazing powers has accelerated his cancer. This blessing and curse has led to him joining forces with Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and Avengers, but having already saved the world, what will Fusion, Sykes' super hero identity, do in his final moments? Find out what makes a hero in One Month to Live #5.

The long-overdue new issue of Powers is also out this week--and Brian Bendis' many fans are sure to be pleased about that!

These books, and many more, will be available as soon as we open the doors on Wednesday, so come on by! (And if you want to get an idea what else you can expect, check out the covers below!)

Fantastic Four: Now Hiring

This week, Jonathan Hickman's run on Fantastic Four ramps up in issue #583 as he kicks off "THREE." The Four are once again facing almost insurmountable odds, but this time, not every member of our favorite super family will make it home. Don't miss the beginning of the end for one of our Fantastic Four.

Thor will see a new creative team this week, with Matt Fraction taking over writing duties and Pasqual Ferry handling the art. After revitalizing Iron Man, Fraction is bringing in the new era of Thor and Asgard. After the events of Seige, Asgard is forced to take its proper place among the nine worlds, but where does that leave Thor? Thor #615 is the perfect jumping on point for new readers!

Geoff Johns' Flash continues as the battle between the Rogues and the Renegades continues to keep Flash busy. Meanwhile, Captain Boomerang and Reverse-Flash are further drawn together by the mysterious White Lantern's power. Brightest Day continues here.

Upcoming MMORPG Telara Chronicles sees the realease of its first of four issues in a miniseries serving as a prequel to the upcoming game. Enter a world devestated by invading forces from other deminsions as we follow Asha Catari, a powerful, magical warrior, in her fight for the fate of Telara. The first issue of Telara Chronicles will aslo come with a code that allows you access to the upcoming beta for the game!

The younger readers-and the young at heart-can look forward to the return of everyone's favorite little blue people, The Smurfs! After over a decade, Papercutz brings The Smurfs back into print with this all new series of graphic novels. These are perfect for anyone that loved the original show or for kids looking for a great new series to pick up.

This week will also see Frank Beddor's Wonderland-epic continiuing in The Looking Glass Wars: Hatter M Vol. 3. This is not the Wonderland everyone rememebers; with his homeland embroiled in a bloody war between black imagination's Redd and white imagination's Queen Genevieve Heart, Hatter M continues his search for the Queen's missing daughter, Alyss, in our world. This is an amazing, action packed series for anyone looking for a taste of something different.

And don't forget to check out Ultimate Comic Spider-Man #14 as Bendis and Lafuente bring us the exciting conclusion to the Chamelions' reign of terror. Peter Parker and Spider-Man have been ruined by the Chamelions, so how will he deal with the shocking conclusion of the last issue if none of his friends or family are there for him? This is truly a game changer for Ultimate Comics Spider-Man!

These books, and many more, will be available as soon as we open the doors on Wednesday, so come on by! (And if you want to get an idea what else you can expect, check out the covers below!)

Great Reading for 9/15!

It's another great comics week, led by the third issue of the hit True Blood series. This comic is supervised by True Blood HBO creator (and former Mariettan) Alan Ball, which is why it fits in so well with the television series. If you haven't tried it yet, check it out--we're keeping back issues in stock so that you can get caught up right away!

Batman Beyond, the sleeper hit near-future series that is firmly set in the DC Universe, continues with the release of its fourth issue this week--and the limited series has done so well that another Batman Beyond project is already on the drawing board!

Gail Simone's superlative Birds of Prey has been one of the surprise hits of the entire Brightest Day event; if you've missed out on the fun so far, give it a try--and if you have tried it, you know why this book is selling almost at Green Lantern levels!

X-23 is back in an all-new series, and we'll have the first issue waiting for you this week!

These books, and many more, will be available as soon as we open the doors on Wednesday, so come on by! (And if you want to get an idea what else you can expect, check out the covers below!)

September 9th Brings Lotsa Great Comics!

It's a Batman trifecta this week, with Batman #703, Grant Morrison's Batman and Robin #14, and Neal Adams' Batman: Odyssey #3. (No Return of Bruce Wayne this week, but it's coming up soon!)

The X-Men continue to wage war against vampires in X-Men #3, while the Ultimate Avengers are facing the bloodsuckers in Ultimate Comics Avengers 3 #2, both on sale this week.

One of the year's best comics, Life With Archie: The Married Life, continues with the release of its second issue this week. If you think Archie is just kids' stuff, think again--this is well-crafted, compelling storytelling dealing with real-world problems as we see two possible futures--one in which Archie is married to Betty, the other in which he's married to Veronica.

September 9th is a great day for fans of classic comics material, too. Editor Steve Saffel continues his ambitious plan to collect every non-Marvel, non-DC Simon & Kirby story with the release of his second volume, Simon & Kirby's Superheroes, featuring hundreds of pages of S&K gems, including a previously-unreprinted Fighting American tale. Marvel prehero fans can get a heaping helping of Lee, Kirby, Ditko, and others in Marvel Masterworks: Atlas Era Tales of Suspense Volume 3 HC. Dark Horse continues their collection of rarely-seen Gold Key Silver Age series with Mighty Samson Archives Volume 1 HC. Charles Schulz's masterpiece continues in Complete Peanutes Volume 14: 1977-1978. John Buscema fans, take note--Conan: The Newspaper Strips is the book you'll want. And Al Williamson fans take note, X-9: Secret Agent Corrigan Volume 1 is the book for you!

These books, and many more, will be available as soon as we open the doors on Thursday, so come on by! (And if you want to get an idea what else you can expect, check out the covers below!)
