New release highlights for Wednesday, October 1!

Marvel is literally redefining the faces of some of their classic heroes this week with the release of several new books. In Thor #1 by Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman, readers meet the new Thor. After being deemed unworthy in Original Sin, the God of Thunder can no longer pick up Mjolnir. The hammer now waits patiently for the next one worthy of the title Thor. Luckily, for us, the wait isn't long. When Frost Giants attack Earth, a new champion is born when she lifts the hammer, thus becoming the Goddess of Thunder! You want want to miss one of the most talked about comics in awhile.

Meanwhile, Thor wasn't the only person affected by the events of Original Sin. Captain America's former partner takes on a new role in the Marvel Universe in Bucky Barnes: Winter Soldier #1 by Ales Kot and Marco Rudy. The galaxy needs a man to do its dirty work, and Bucky is just the person to do the job. Speaking of Cap, readers are introduced to the next man to hold the famous shield in Captain America #25 by Rick Remender, Carlos Pacheco and Stuart Immonmen.

If you thought that was all from Marvel, you're wrong! The Death of Wolverine #3 is out this Wednesday after a short delay. Kitty has joined Logan on his quest to figure out who wants him dead. If the title of the book is any indication, I don't think she'll be much help in preventing his fate. And don't miss the brand new series Guardians 3000 #1 by Dan Abnett and Gerardo Sandoval, bringing by the original Guardians of the Galaxy: Vance Astro, Yondu, Martinex, Starhawk and Charlie-27!

In the DC Universe, Gotham City is one if the roughest cities around, so just try going to school there. In Gotham Academy #1 by Becky Cloonan and Karl Kerschl, readers will see how weird it gets at the most prestigious school in the city. Meet Olive Silverlock. She's got a creepy mom and a freshman following her around, and what's up with her and Kyle? Learn more about Olive and the ghost haunting North hall (oh yeah, there's a ghost too) in this new first issue.

If you have a taste for the ultraviolence, look no further than DC's new Lobo #1 by Cullen Bunn and Reilly Brown. If you thought you've seen the worst Lobo could dish out, you haven't seen the first few pages of his new book. Then, the New Gods and the Lanterns clash in the new Green Lantern/New Gods: Godhead #1 by Robert Venditti and Pete Woods. The Highfather wants to know how the Lanterns stole secrets from the Source Wall, but to do so, he must collect one of each ring for himself. The story is continued in this week's Green Lantern #35 by Robert Venditti and Billy Tan.
