New release highlights for Wednesday, October 1!

Marvel is literally redefining the faces of some of their classic heroes this week with the release of several new books. In Thor #1 by Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman, readers meet the new Thor. After being deemed unworthy in Original Sin, the God of Thunder can no longer pick up Mjolnir. The hammer now waits patiently for the next one worthy of the title Thor. Luckily, for us, the wait isn't long. When Frost Giants attack Earth, a new champion is born when she lifts the hammer, thus becoming the Goddess of Thunder! You want want to miss one of the most talked about comics in awhile.

Meanwhile, Thor wasn't the only person affected by the events of Original Sin. Captain America's former partner takes on a new role in the Marvel Universe in Bucky Barnes: Winter Soldier #1 by Ales Kot and Marco Rudy. The galaxy needs a man to do its dirty work, and Bucky is just the person to do the job. Speaking of Cap, readers are introduced to the next man to hold the famous shield in Captain America #25 by Rick Remender, Carlos Pacheco and Stuart Immonmen.

Click through after the break to see more new comics highlights and a full list of everything available Wednesday, October 1!

Join us today at noon for Dr. No's Magic: The Gathering's Khans of Tarkir Release Celebration!

Dr. No's Comics & Games Superstore is proud to celebrate the release of Magic: The Gathering's new set Khans of Tarkir on Saturday, September 27 at noon. In the latest set, players enter the homeland of Sarkhan Vol where five fierce clans battle for control.

This is your second chance to get the special promo cards that were available during the prerelease tournaments last weekend. When you pick the clan you want to support, you'll receive a clan specific pack with one of eight different promo cards. That's right. Eight.

The release tournament is a Sealed Deck format, so you'll build your 40-card minimum deck during the event using the packs you get in your clan box. Players will keep all of the cards they open at each event. Top ranking players will even have the chance to win additional packs from Khans.

The release event begins at noon on Saturday, September 27. Preregister now to reserve your spot in the tournament! We can't wait to see you here!

Magic: The Gathering Khans of Tarkir Prerelease Highlights!

With the release of Magic: The Gathering's new set, Khans of Tarkir, right around the corner (tomorrow) and the Release Celebration Tournament right after (on Saturday), we thought we would take a look at some of the highlights from last weekend's Khans of Tarkir Prerelease Event.

Wizards of the Coast did things a little differently for this set. Similar to previous prerelease events, players choose the clan they were going to support in the tournament, which (in theory) sets what colors they're going to play in the tournament. Once the clans are chosen, everyone received the clan box that contained their Khans packs along with a clan specific booster containing a special promo card. The promo card is where Wizards changed things up. In the past, there were five different cards (one for each box), but this set had multiple promos for each clan. This gives players the chance to get different promos if they play in multiple prerelease events — we ran the event on Saturday and Sunday. Multiple clan-promo cards also means different players supporting the same clan might run different promo cards in their decks, which provided a little variety on the battlefield.

The prereleases also turned out to be a great place for new Magic players to get their start. On both Saturday and Sunday, we had several players new to the game, and they had a blast! In fact, one of our Magic Freshman placed top 8 in her very first tournament! Congratulations, Kate. We hope to see all of our new players at future events as they continue to enjoy the game.

Speaking of future events. We have the Release Celebration Tournament on Saturday, September 27 at noon. This is a second chance for anyone who missed taking part in the prerelease (or those that did and can't wait to play with Khans some more) to get their hands one of those clan boxes I was talking about. And do forget about our weekly Draft Tournaments every Thursday at 6:30 PM and Friday at 6:00 PM.

New comic highlights for Wednesday, September 24

The dark future of DC's New 52 is further explored this Wednesday in another group of one-shot books looking at where each of the titular heroes (or villains) is five years later. Each of these books comes with a really cool 3D cover that isn't to be missed. Here are the titles too keep an eye out for this week: Aquaman and the Others: Futures End #1, Booster Gold: Futures End #1, Catwoman: Futures End #1, Flash: Futures End #1, Harley Quinn: Futures End #1, Justice League Dark: Futures End #1, Red Lantern: Futures End #1, Sinestro: Futures End #1 and Superman: Futures End #1. If all of those books don't satisfy your hunger for the future of the DCU, you always have the weekly New 52 Futures End book; issue #21 is out this week.

DC has a treat for all you Joker fans. The Batman Death of the Family & Joker Mask Set hits shelves this week. Not only do you get the trade paperback collection of Scott Snyder's popular storyline that brought Joker back to the New 52 DCU, but you also get a gruesome, hand-painted Joker mask. Now you don't have to worry about who you're going to be for Halloween!

In Edge of Spider-Verse #3 by Dustin Weaver, Dr. Aaron Aikman is the Spider-Man! Who is this Aikman guy? What kind of Spider-Man is he? Pick up the issue and find out who this brand new Spider-character is. This series has been a lot of fun so far, and we highly recommend it to Spider-Man fans.

Image's new series by Michael Moreci and Vic Malhotra, Roche Limit #1, is described as a pairing of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Blade Runner. Billionaire Langford Skaargard's dream of exploring the cosmos ends like many dreams do: poorly. The colony of Roche Limit has devolved into a hive of crime and villainy. In a place like Limit, it isn't odd for someone to go missing. However, when Bekkah Hudson disappears, a search leads her sister and others to uncover the dark future of humanity. Dr. No's is proud to offer the rare Phantom Variant for Roche Limit #1, only available at authorized stores.
