Vertigo has a new book this week that you won't want to miss: Collider #1 by Simon Oliver and Robbi Rodriguez. Everything in the world was status quo until things got weird. How weird? Temporary gravity failures, time reversal loops and entropy reversals kind of weird. As the oddities increased, the government established a new agency: The Federal Bureau of Physics. Soon, weird became the new status quo, but it didn't last. It's up to Agent Adam Hardy and his highly trained FBP team to figure out why reality itself is coming undone, and they better hurry.
DC's 'Trinity War' is in full swing and continues this week in Trinity of Sin: Pandora #2 by Ray Fawkes and Daniel Sampere. The Leagues are tangled in a battle amongst themselves, so Pandora finds herself standing alone against The Secret Society of Super-Villains. If you've enjoyed the Batman 'Zero Year' storyline, you'll want to check out Batman Zero Year Directors Cut #1. This special issue reprints all of Batman #21 in Greg Capullo's black-and-white pencil art and includes Scott Snyder's full script. If you like this kind of look behind the scenes, check out last week's Superman Unchained Directors Cut #1, showcasing Jim Lee's pencil art.
There are several DC Annuals to look for this Wednesday. The 'Zero Year' continues in Batman Annual #2 by Scott Snyder and Aaron Lopresti. Bruces first year as the Batman has just started, and events have already been set in motion that will affect his final destiny. Then, Batman must track down a shape-shifting assassin that threatens the entire GCPD in Detective Comics Annual #2 by John Layman, Scot Eaton and Jaime Mendoza. In Superman Annual #2 by Scott Lobdell and Pascal Alixe, discover the repercussions suffered from Brianiac's first attack and what it means for Metropolis. Witness the first meeting of the Flash and Green Lantern in Flash Annual #2 by Brian Buccellato and Cully Hamner. Buddy Baker is still reeling from the loss of his son (what's with DC and heroes' sons?), but in Animal Annual #2 by Jeff Lemire and Travel Foreman, he'll discover the bonds of family are always stronger than any threat of evil, even if that evil is a horde of slavering spiders.
Marvel brings some flavor to this week's releases with Wolverine: In The Flesh #1 by popular chef and reality TV star Chris Cosentino and artist Dakbor Talajic. Witness culinary carnage like never before as Wolverine's adamantium claws meet wickedly sharp kitchen knives in this off-the-wall idea. However, while the concept is strange, Cosentino is attempting to tell a more grounded story where Logan (as opposed to his Wolverine alter-ego) and the Top Chef Master meet and team-up to figure out this tasty mystery.
In one of the more interesting comic events of the year, Marvel introduced Neil Gaiman's popular Spawn character Angela to the MU at the end of Age of Ultron. This week, discover the lasting effects of AoU's dramatic conclusion in Guardians of the Galaxy #5 by Brian Michael Bendis, Neil Gaiman as a story consultant and Sara Pichelli. Don't miss Angela's first full appearance as she encounters the Guardians and puts them off their game. 'The Enemy Within' story line comes to its conclusion in Captain Marvel #14 by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Scott Hepburn. Captain Marvel will stop Magnitron no matter the costs. If you'd like to catch up on your Inhumans knowledge in preparation for Infinity, check out Black Bolt: Something Inhuman This Way Comes, reprinting Amazing Adventures (1970) #5-10 and Avengers (1963) #95.
Check the list below to see other great books coming out this Wednesday, July 31. The staff of Dr. No's looks forward to seeing you when our doors open at 11 a.m.
