Magic: The Gathering 2013 Game Day is this Saturday, August 4

Dr. No's Comics and Games is proud to host the Magic: The Gathering 2013 Core Set Game Day event this Saturday, August 4 at noon! Players will need to bring a standard format constructed deck and the want to have fun! All participants will receive the exclusive Mwonvuli Beast Tracker, and the top eight players will walk away with an exclusive Magmaquake full-art promo card. There is a $5 entry fee, and the tournament will be swiss style with the number of rounds will be determined by the number of participants. We look forward to see you here!

Kiss your week goodbye! New comics are here Wednesday, August 1

Famed comics creator Howard Chaykin returns to the hardboiled, black and white world of sex and violence in Black Kiss II #1. While the original series followed the trail of a vampire cult in 1980s Los Angeles, Chaykin decides to go back to early 20th century New York City in this follow up series to look at what started it all. It is a time of change, and all of the filth and horribleness of the city threatens to come to a boiling point. This series is not for the faint of heart or young of age, but if you are looking for an off the beaten path story, then this may be your book. If you missed it, the original Black Kiss is available in trade.

Marvel has a few great titles lined up for fans this week! First up, the epic battle between former friends and teammates continues in  Avengers vs X-Men #9 by Jason Aaron and Adam Kubert. The Phoenix Force Five have made a significant impact on the Avenger's numbers, so the remaining members of Earth's Mightiest Heroes decided to stage a daring assault on the X-Men's prison. Meanwhile, the true nature of the Phoenix begins to make itself known.

Readers are about to find out just how crazy Deadpool is in Marvel's newest miniseries Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe #1 by Cullen Bunn and Dalibor Talajic. Things quickly go from funny to down right disturbing when the Merc with a Mouth decides to kill the Marvel Universe. And when Deadpool sets his twisted sights on the Universe, he means everything and everyone. Sit back, buckle up, and get ready! Bullets, knives, and one-liners are about to start flying. While the Marvel U recovers from Deadpool's destruction, why don't you kick back and celebrate 50 years of web-slinging with Peter Parker, Spider-Man #156.1. Writer Roger Stern and artist Roberto De La Torre bring readers a brand new story that feels like it picks up where the series left off. Fans of the DC Retroactive series will want to give this book a try.

The moment DC fans have been waiting for is finally here! The prelude to 'Rotworld' begins in Animal Man #12 and Swamp Thing #12 co-written by Jeff Lemire and Scott Snyder. Buddy Baker and Dr. Alec Holland venture into the Rot to stop the evil force that has been haunting both of them, and for new readers, the events of the last year will be recapped! Now there is no reason you shouldn't be reading these awesome books!

Those aren't the only great DC titles out this week. Before Watchmen Nite Owl # 2 by Michael J. Straczynski and Andy Kubert continues the tale of the newest Nite Owl's early days, and stay for the Crimson Corsair backup story by Len Wein and John Higgins. A couple of other wonderful reads to look out for this week include Earth 2 #4 by James Robinson, Nicola Scott, and Trever Scott (witness the debut of the all-new Atom Smasher!) and Justice League International #12 by Dan Jurgens, Aaron Lopresti, and Matt Ryan (you won't want to miss this final issue).

Have you been reading Matt Kindt's Mind MGMT from Dark Horse Comics? Yes? Great, you know how awesome it is, and you'll be happy to know the third issue is out this Wednesday. And if you haven't, you should be happy to know you only have a couple of issues to get and be caught up! This issue, Meru's investigation becomes increasingly weird as she encounters the psychic espionage agency Mind MGMT's 'miracle dolphins' and discovers the leads she's been following have been purposely left for her.

Grab some x-treme new comics this Wednesday, July 23

This Wednesday, Marvel launches the new X-treme X-Men #1 by writer Greg Pak and artist Stephen Segovia. Pak is taking on the Marvel Multiverse in his new book starring Captain Howlett (an alternate universe Wolverine), Kid Nightcrawler (the kid version of the fuzzy elf), Emmeline Frost (I bet you can guess this one), and Marvel U's Dazzler. Readers first met these characters during Pak's run on Astonishing X-Men. While not a direct follow up to the long running Exiles, fans of that series will want to check out the dimension hoping adventures of this crew of interesting characters. And Pak promises that the X-treme in the title will truly stand for extreme in the story. No character or reality is safe. And because I mentioned the series early, don't forget to pick up Astonishing X-Men #52 by Marjorie Lie and Mike Perkins. Of course, there are also some Avengers vs X-Men tie-ins that include Avengers #28, Wolverine and the X-Men #14, and X-Men Legacy #120.

Whether you're a fan of IDW's current Transformers comic line, the original cartoon, or even the films, make sure to check out the new original graphic novel Transformers: Autocracy by writer Chris Metzen and artist Livio Ramendelli. In the early days of what was called the Great War, Optimus Prime was just Orion Pax and a new terrorist group known as the Decepticons were beginning to sow discontent among Cybertron. This new threat to the bots of Cybertron quickly takes over the city-state Kaon. Orion must lead a team of Transformers to stop the terrorist actions of the new group, and, along the way, they will all learn what it means to be an Autobot.

Darth Maul was thought dead after his fateful duel with Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, but the galaxy is about to discover it is hard to keep a Sith Lord down in Dark Horse's new series Star Wars: Darth Maul, Death Sentence #1 by Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo. Maul has teamed up with his brother Savage Opress to leave a trail of destruction through the Outer Rim as they are tracked down by the Jedi. That destruction leads to a price being put on their head that no one will be able to resist, including an army of mercenaries. The brothers decide the best (and most fun) way to deal with trouble is to face it head on. Speaking of people thought dead, Star Wars: Blood Ties, Boba Fett is Dead #4 wraps up the miniseries that fans have been loving.

Top Shelf presents Jeff Lemire's newest original graphic novel Underwater Welder! Many readers know writer/artist Jeff Lemire from his recent DC comics work on Frankenstein, Agent of Shade, Animal Man, and Justice League Dark or his amazing original stories like Essex County and Sweet Tooth. Lemire's latest work follows soon to be father Jack Joseph, an underwater welder off the coast of Nova Scotia. Being deep under the sea, Jack has gotten used to the pressure of his work, but it is nothing compared to what he is experiencing as a soon to be father. Wanting to escape all of his worries, Jack dives deeper and deeper until one day he has an encounter at the ocean floor that will change his life forever.

DC's Before Watchmen summer event continues with Before Watchmen: Comedian #2; after the events of last issue, where does the Comedian's faith lay? Then stick around for the Crimson Corsair backup feature by Len Wein and John Higgins. And don't forget to find all of your favorite DC New 52 titles like All Star Western #11, Aquaman #11, Batman Incorporated #3, Green Lantern #11, Teen Titans #11, and many others.

Captain Marvel returns this Wednesday, July 18

Marvel Universe's Carol Danvers has gone by several names: Warbird, Binary, and Ms. Marvel. This week, she adds another name to the list and uniform in the closet in Captain Marvel #1 by writer Kelly Sue DeConnick and up-and-coming artist Dexter Soy. With her new name and costume (invoking the original Captain Marvel's costume), comes a new mission and enough power to get her into trouble. DeConnick describes the new Danvers Captain Marvel as a Chuck Yeager like daredevil/ace pilot ready to take on anything standing in her way. And don't worry, readers that are new to Ms. Marvel (or any of her previous aliases) will be able to jump right into this new series without feeling lost. The new series is sure to please long-time Carol Danver fans as well! No one will want to miss this great new book. For more of the new Captain Marvel, pick up last weeks Avenging Spider-Man #9.

Jenna's ward and younger brother Denny is a genius. Denny has a special condition. If there is a problem, he will solve it. He has no choice. It is that unique ability that leads to both Jenna and Denny finding themselves in a magical land fueled by math in Finding Gossamyr #1 by David Rodriguez and artist Sarah Ellerton. After checking him into a school for the gifted, Denny is presented with a equation that is unsolvable, or it was until he came along. The equation is the key to Gossamyr, a land with a rich history, unique people, and magic. In Gossamyr, Denny is able to come into his own and be more than just a quite, weird kid. Fans of classic tales like Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland will want to give this great all-ages comic a look.

Round Eight of Avengers vs X-Men hits shelves this week. Namor, fueled by the Phoenix Force, is out of control, and his rage filled quest to capture the Avengers leads him to invade the sovereign nation of Wakanda. If that isn't bad enough, a shocking truth comes to light that threatens to destroy an already uneasy alliance among the X-Men. In the AvX tie-in Uncanny X-Men #16, the X-Men make their move against Sinister and his sinister Forces. For even more action, check out the tie-in book Avengers Academy #33. A group of X-Men come knocking, and they are calling out the school's Sentinel. Of course, Marvel has some of its other great titles out this week including Daredevil #15, Fantastic Four #608, Wolverine #309 (the issue that everyone thought they missed!), X-Factor #240, and Untold Tales of Punisher Max #2.

DC's big event continues with Before Watchmen Silk Spectre #2 by Darwyn Cooke and Amanda Conner. Laurie is setting out on her own to begin a journey that will eventually take her back to what she is running from. Also in this issue, the Crimson Corsair backup feature by Len Wein and John Higgins continues! And don't forget to pick up this weeks release of New 52 titles that include great books like Justice League #11, DC Universe Presents #11, Red Hood and the Outlaws #11, and Catwoman #11.

The Walking Dead #100 comes to life this Wednesday, July 11

Nearly nine years have passed since Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead #1 shambled onto local comic shop shelves, and this Wednesday marks another landmark in the series with the release of The Walking Dead #100! If you think you've seen everything, just wait until you read this issue continuing the 'Something To Fear' storyline. Rick faces one of the darkest times in his life, which is saying a lot for what the man has been through, and this issues promises to have one of the most violent and brutal things to ever happen in the series. With so much in one issue, this book will be extra-sized to contain all of the awesome. For the collectors out there, there will be ten covers featuring art from several notable comic creators.

As an extra treat, Dr. No's will have special guest Kevin Galbraith from The Walking Dead television show in the store from Noon to 4 pm. Kevin has appeared in the show as several zombies, including a feature zombie that killed a major character during the last season. He will be back in the third season with an even bigger zombie role. Kevin, who is a huge fan of the Kirkman's book, will be in store signing and chatting with fans of the comic and show from Noon until 4 pm, so stop on by and say hello.




DC Comics presents the new series Punk Rock Jesus from writer/artist Sean Murphy (previous work includes Joe The Barbarian and American Vampire: Survival of the Fittest). Set in a near-future United States where reality television is still king, a new tv series called J2 premieres and stars the clone of Jesus Christ. Nine months after a young woman named Gwen wins a contest deciding who will carry the second coming, the new Messiah is born. Thomas McKael is hired as bodyguard to a baby Jesus who grows from infant to angry teenager on screens around the world. Murphy will explore the implications of cloning humans, let alone Jesus Christ, and the effects on those around the event and the world. Also out this week, Before Watchmen: Minutemen #2 continues the series written and drawn by Darwyn Cooke focusing on the heroes that prepared the world for the Watchmen. And for those that thought they might have missed it, Swamp Thing #11 will hits shelves, which is better late than never!


The Crow returns this week in the first issue of a new series from IDW and creative team John Shirley and Kevin Colden. The spirit of the Crow is reborn in the body of Jamie Osterberg. Jamie was just a normal guy from America studying in Tokyo. His love Yumi meant everything to him, but one day his happiness was taken away from him. To right the wrongs that have been done, he must kill his one true love. Fans of the films and the original comic will enjoy this new series.





With all of the exciting news of Marvel NOW! (with more sure to come from SDCC this week), let's not forget that AvX VS #4 continues the knock-down, drag-out fights between former friends and teammates. This issues features Daredevil facing off against Psylocke (by Rick Remender and Brandon Peterson) and Thor takes on a Phoenix Force powered Emma Frost (by Kaare Andrews). Those looking to read every tie-in will want to pick up Wolverine and the X-Men #13 by Jason Aaron and Nick Bradshaw. Marvel's ongoing series of Season One graphic novels continues with the Ant-Man Season One HC by Tom Defalco and Horacio Domingues. And if you are looking for something a little different from Marvel, check out Space: Punisher #1 by Frank Tieri and painted by Mark Texeira. In this non-continuity tale, Frank Castle is in space, and he is cutting a path of destruction through the criminal hierarchy of space. First on his list is the Sym-Brood-ant Queen!

Wednesday, July 11th, Walking Dead #100 shambles into Dr. No's bringing with it a buddy from the TV Show, Kevin Galbraith.

Kevin has played zombies throughout the show, including a featured zombie who killed a major character in the show last season.

Kevin will be here signing and chatting with fans of the Walking Dead from Noon until 4pm.

Prerelease This Weekend!
July 7 and 8

Magic the Gathering's newest core set releases July 13, but if you can't wait, Dr. No's is hosting two prerelease tournaments! The first tournament is this Saturday, July 7, and the second is on Sunday, July 8. Both events will use the sealed format, which means players must build their decks from six booster packs, and will begin at noon both days. Core sets are a great way for new players to get into the game, so if you have every wanted to try it out, this is your chance. We hope to see a lot of you there!

Johns and Frank join forces for Batman Earth One this Wednesday, July 4

Happy Fourth of July week from all of us at Dr. No's Comics and Games! We wanted to let everyone know that books will be available when we open our doors on Wednesday, and we will be open regular hours (11am-8pm) the entire day!

In October of 2010, DC launched its Earth One line of original graphic novels with Superman: Earth One by J. Michael Straczynski and artist Shane Davis. The book was praised by fans and critics alike, and since then, readers have been clamoring for an Earth One book starring Batman. DC were not ones to disappoint, confirming that there would indeed be one starring The Dark Knight, and the critically acclaimed team of Geoff Johns and Gary Frank (previous works include Superman: Secret Origin and the Shazam! backup story from the current Justice League series) would be bringing the book to life. At last, the wait is over! Batman Earth One is out this Wednesday! Witness the birth of the Batman like you have never seen it before. Johns and Frank didn't want to change the core of what made Batman who he is, but rest assured, while the events may seem familiar, that is about it. See a young man transform from orphan to vigilante and witness his first year as The Dark Knight. This book is sure to be a hit, so do not miss it.

DC's other big book this week is Before Watchmen Ozymandias #1 by Len Wein and Jae Lee. The original bad guy of the Watchmen is getting the origin treatment, and, unlike the other series, this book starts at the birth of a hero and shows his epic rise to who he was in the original story. If that isn't enough from DC, the new He-Man and the Masters of the Universe #1 debuts this week by James Robinson and artist Phillip Tan. Skeletor has rewritten Eternia's history, and He-Man is not part of it. But a young woodsman named Adam begins having dreams of a past life full of glory and sets out to discover the truth of these dreams.

Marvel's main event continues its second act this week in Avengers vs. X-Men #7! After last week's shocking last words uttered by Cyclops, "No More Avengers," you will not want to miss this issue. Everything is going to change. Then in this week's AvX tie-in Uncanny X-Men #15, the X-Men take on Sinister and his sinister force! Want even more mutant action? Marvel has it!

Wolverine and Sabertooth had their final face-off nearly five years ago in Wolverine: Evolution. Or did they? This week, Wolverine #310 by Jeph Loeb and Simone Bianchi kicks off the long awaited sequel to the original story. Find out how Sabertooth survived the killing blow Wolverine dealt him long ago. A quick note, some readers may think they missed Wolverine #309, but don't worry, it hasn't actually come out yet!
